I think the only "candy" is that you might learn the school’s acceptance early, just as you said, “to get it done early.” In most cases, our kids have an order of preferred schools. So, if the first school accepts them, then it shortens their overall application process. I don't think the early decision or early action has anything to do with the other "candies" you were talking about.

I am not sure what kind of "invited" applications you are referring to. First of all, it would not interest you or you son if the invitation is not from one of his targeted schools. Computer generated mailing of "invitations" do not count either. The "invitation" must come from a school's high official (e.g. president, chancellor) or a sport coach to be meaningful.

My son received an invitation letter from the chancellor of a school promising him a full scholarship. But he is not interested in going there.
